Final Fantasy XVI is Reportedly Coming “Sooner Than People Think”

The surprise announcement for Final Fantasy XVI during Sony’s PlayStation 5 conference was quite something, and many gamers expected the latest in their flagship RPG franchise to be years away. That

The new report comes via Bloomberg technology reporter Jason Schreier in a new episode of the Triple Click podcast (via VGC). “I’ve heard from people who know the game, have worked on the game or are familiar with the game’s development that it’s actually been in development for at least four years in some capacity. So it’s coming sooner than people think,” Schreier said.

He went on to compare Final Fantasy XVI to Final Fantasy XV, which originally got revealed way back in 2006 as Final Fantasy Versus 13 and subsequently got rebooted a few times in development.

“15 I think really set a terrible precedent. It was announced as Versus 13 in 2006 and then took ten years to make, so I think they want to shy away from that. It makes sense: 15 came out in 2016, so it’s already been four years since the last Final Fantasy game,” he said.

Final Fantasy XV is planned for a release on PlayStation 5. During its reveal, the original version of the trailer also suggested the game would come to Windows PC – Sony later confirmed the original trailer was inaccurate and hasn’t confirmed nor denied a PC version.
