Ubisoft Apologizes for Excluding Female Assassins from New Assassin’s Creed Promo Video

assassin's creed

Ubisoft released a throwback trailer for the Assassin’s Creed series yesterday to tease the return of the “hidden blade”, the series longstanding weapon used for close-quarters assassinations. The trailer didn’t include any of the female assassins from the franchise, so some people got upset.

Ubisoft has apologized for the first trailer, and has released a new trailer. The second trailer shows off the various female assassins from the series, alongside a message from the publisher apologizing for the first trailer:

“We clearly missed some great assassins in this video, and we apologise,” Ubisoft said. “We’ve updated the asset to highlight ALL the assassins who master the hidden blade. Thanks to our passionate community for their input.”

The new trailer comes after allegations of sexual harassment within the publisher, as well as extra-marital affairs – where a pair of top staff within the company have resigned or possibly got fired. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently talked up changes to the company to “improve diversity and inclusivity at the company,” along with the company’s support of Black Lives Matter.

The latest game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, launches November 17th on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia.
