Master Roshi Announced for Dragon Ball FighterZ, Competition Roadmap 2020

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced Master Roshi for Dragon Ball FighterZ, along with their Competition Roadmap for 2020.

EVO Online was cancelled due to multiple allegations of sexual harassment and abuse made against co-founder and CEO Joey “MrWizard” Cuellar and other prominent members of the fighting game community. Cuellar, Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada, and Richard “Keitaro” King later confessed the allegations were true.

While Bandai Namco Entertainment pulled their support for the tournament when the allegations came to light, it is likely the reveal of this new trailer would have come during the event. The announcement of their competitions is likely a result of Evo Online’s cancellation.

First, as the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour had been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, an Online Tournament Event had been announced in its place. However, the game’s producer explained due to rollback netcode being difficult to implement, “we have decided to select specific players on our side, as well as close the competition within certain countries in order to reduce the amount of lags as much as possible.”

As part of the third season updates, players could choose from three different Z Assists when selecting a character (thereby preventing players picking a character just for their Z Assist move). Even so, there are some characters and Z Assists that are being underused. As such, the next update will focus on those characters and Z Assists among other adjustments.

To deal with players rage quitting, and using data to identify which players have been intentionally disconnecting, the team are “considering specific measures in order to maintain a healthy online environment.”

There will be five online tournaments making up the Dragon Ball FighterZ National Championship, featuring “40 of the best world players“. Starting in October 2020, it will run until December that same year. Participating countries include Spain, USA East and West, France, and Japan.

Eight players from each country will be invited into seven days of round robin tournaments, with the top four qualifying for one month of playoffs to crown a national champion.

A new reveal is also teased for the next Dragon Ball FighterZ Show in September 2020. This will include the players invited to the National Championship and other details. There will also be Dragon Ball FighterZ Shows in October, November, and December; focusing on community content, and a roundup of the National Championship.

Finally, Master Roshi was revealed to be joining the game as part of the FighterZ Pass 3 season pass. Known as the Turtle Hermit, Roshi’s old appearance, and strange and perverted habits belie a true martial arts master.

He trained Goku, and taught him the Kamehameha Wave. Despite being mortal, he fought alongside his friends and allies in the universe-saving Tournament of Power; a tournament featuring the strongest fighters across the multiverse.

You can find the announcement trailer below.

Master Roshi shall join the FighterZ Pass 3 season pass in September. Other characters in the pass include Ultra Instinct Goku and Kefla.
