Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced that Dark Souls III has now sold over 10 million copies worldwide, along with the series selling 27 million units.
Back in 2016 (two months after its launch) Dark Souls III had sold over 3 million copies worldwide, with the sales for the entire series exceeding 13 million. As stated in the press release, this has now grown to 10 million units world wide.
Senior Vice President Marketing, Digital, Content at Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe Hervé Hoerdt offered his thanks to the supporters of the series.
“DARK SOULS III has fast become one of our most successful games to date. We can’t thank our players and fans enough for the trust they put in our game. DARK SOULS community has been incredible since the release back in 2016, and it is amazing to see players still being involved and showcasing our game!”
In addition, developer FromSoftware announced via Twitter that the Dark Souls series had now sold over 27 million units. They offered similar gratitude to their fans.
“The DARK SOULS series has sold over 27 million units to date. We are incredibly grateful to every single one of our players. This success is owed to you.
We hope you continue to enjoy our games, and look forward to Elden Ring, the new Action RPG that’s currently in development.”
We have not heard much from Elden Ring since its announcement, but we do know the game will be developed in collaboration with Game of Thrones author and creator George R.R. Martin.
Due to the involvement of FromSoftware, Bandai Namco, and the game’s seemingly dark fantasy setting; there has been speculation as to what similarities the game will have to the Dark Souls series, if at all. We will keep you informed as we learn more.
