Bandai Namco have announced Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 will be free for a limited time, as part of an anti-coronavirus pandemic initiative.
As part of the “More Fun for Everyone – at Home” initiative, the game will be free across all its released platforms until May 10th.
“People around the globe are doing their part to change their life and workstyles in order to battle the COVID-19 pandemic,” Bandai Namco explains. “Here at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, we have put into action initiatives to support and safeguard the health of our employees, their families & friends, as well as our customers, vendors, and our communities.”
“Our vision is to follow our slogan word for word and provide – ‘more fun for everyone.’ We are striving to provide entertainment that everyone can enjoy in the hope we can bring smiles and laughter to video game players throughout the world during this difficult time.”
The game will be free to buy- and own- until May 10th, with the Steam version giveaway launching a little later at 7:00PM CEST. Earlier this month PlayStation also offered two free games until May 5th, along with financial support to indie developer partners.
Expanding upon the mechanics of the arcade classic, Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 moves at a break-neck pace. Ghosts can be bumped into several times before being a threat to Pac-Man, and players can sneak past sleeping ghosts to generate a long trail behind the ghost. Eating this ghost later racks up huge points.
Along with other mechanics turning the game on its head, the game features a bright psychedelic visuals, and a pulse pounding techno soundtrack.
