Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge Red Band Trailer

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios have revealed the red band trailer for animated film Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge.

Based on the plot of the original game (and elements of later ones), Shang Tsung hosts an interdimentional martial arts tournament, with the winner earning a chance to save their home.

Meanwhile, Quan Chi offers damned soul Hanzo Hasashi a chance at revenge for the murder of his family. Hanzo is reborn as Scorpion, and enters the tournament in his pursuit of Sub-Zero.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Ed Boon (Mortal Kombat co-creator) will act as a creative consultant. Ethan Spaulding will direct (Batman: Assault on Arkham, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis), and script by Jeremy Adams (Supernatural, Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans).

Several voice actors and actresses have returned to their roles. Patrick Seitz returns as Scorpion, having been replaced by Ron Yuan in Mortal Kombat 11. Grey Griffin reprises her role as Kitana since Mortal Kombat X. Most curiously of all, Kevin Michael Richardson will voice Goro, as he did in the 1995 live-action film.

You can find the cast (via Wikipedia) below:

  • Patrick Seitz – Hanzo Hasashi / Scorpion
  • Steve Blum – Kuai-Liang / Sub-Zero

Finally, you can find the full rundown (via the official website) below:

“After the vicious slaughter of his family by stone-cold mercenary Sub-Zero, Hanzo Hasashi is exiled to the torturous Netherrealm. There, in exchange for his servitude to the sinister Quan Chi, he’s given a chance to avenge his family – and is resurrected as Scorpion, a lost soul bent on revenge. Back on Earthrealm, Lord Raiden gathers a team of elite warriors – Shaolin monk Liu Kang, Special Forces officer Sonya Blade and action star Johnny Cage – an unlikely band of heroes with one chance to save humanity. To do this, they must defeat Shang Tsung’s horde of Outworld gladiators and reign over the Mortal Kombat tournament. Prepare to witness the bone-crushing action in this all-new Mortal Kombat Legends animated feature!”

The film marks the first animated Mortal Kombat project since the 1996 Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm (also known as Mortal Kombat The Animated Series), mocked for its cheap production values (by today’s standards) and child friendly tone when compared to the original games. [1, 2]. The series did introduce Quan Chi, who would later become a major antagonist within the games.

Ed Boon also confirmed on Twitter that the film would be R Rated, making it the first Mortal Kombat movie to receive such a rating.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge launches April 12th digitally (via Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, and VuDu), and April 28th on Blu-ray.
