Rumor: BioWare Looking to Completely Overhaul Anthem

A new rumor is pointing to Electronic Arts and developer BioWare completely overhauling Anthem, after the game’s trouble launched and subsequent struggle to find an audience.

The new rumor (via Kotaku) cites sources close to BioWare, noting the developer is planning an “Anthem 2.0” or “Anthem Next” overhaul for the multiplayer action / shooter RPG.

The source notes there’s no clear timeline for the overhaul, only that the developers are simply trying to figure out how they can save the game – whether it be through a number of updates, a new expansion, or something else altogether.

What’s very interesting is the sources note the developer is even considering presenting the new version as an entirely new game, a la Final Fantasy XIV when it was relaunched as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Other western developers have recently had success with such ambitious reboots, like Hello Games and their rebirth with the complete overhaul of No Man’s Sky. As with any rumor, take it with a grain of salt.

Anthem is currently available in its original form for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our review for the game here.
