Valve’s New Auto Chess Game is Dota Underlords

Valve has announced Dota Underlords, their very own auto chess game.

The new game is described as “a new stand-alone game that pits you against seven opponents in a battle of wits that will have you building, combining, and leveling-up a crew in a battle of dominance for the city of White Spire.”

The game will let players buy heroes and fight them against each other in automated battles, where fighting combos, counters, and other mechanics will determine who comes out on top. A beta is set for next week, where the company will do a stress test for DOTA 2 Battle Pass owners.

After that, a full open beta will be available to all players, where everyone can play for free across Windows PC, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS. Once the open beta kicks off, the game will have ranked matchmaking, progression, and more.

Valve notes this is a build of the game that is “fairly early in development,” so expect unfinished things and bugs.

“While we intend to constantly be updating the game and adding features throughout the Beta Season, your feedback is critical to help the team know what issues are important to you,” Valve said in their blog post.
