Legendary anime director Mamoru Oshii, known for his work on Ghost in the Shell, Angel’s Egg, and more, has announced (via Ichigo) he’s been working on a new anime series, and what’s more – it’s coming next year.

While details are scant, Oshii has been working with Ichigo Animation – a subsidiary of the Japanese energy production and real estate company Ichigo – on the project. Oshii wrote the original story, script, and overall direction of the new series, and Ichigo is the sole producer of the series.

Reportedly, this is something Oshii has been thinking about and wanting to do for the past decade.

The new anime series is set to hit broadcast and streaming platforms sometime from spring to early summer of next year.

We’ll keep you guys posted.
