Ubisoft Drops Steam Release for The Division 2, Will Partner With Epic Games Store on Future Titles

Ubisoft has announced they will not be offering Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 via Steam like its predecessor.

The publisher noted they’re dropping a Steam release and have decided to release it via the Epic Games Store, alongside their own online store. Ubisoft also noted they have “no plans currently” to release the game on Steam.

Furthermore, Ubisoft and Epic both added they will “partner on additional select titles” on the Epic Games Store, which will be announced in the coming year. If you pre-ordered the game on Steam, Ubisoft noted they will fulfill pre-orders made at other digital retailers prior to the game’s launch.

“We entrust Epic to deliver a smooth journey for our fans, from preordering the game and enjoying our Beta to the launch of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on March 15,” Ubisoft’s Chris Early, vice president of partnerships, said in a press release. “Epic continues to disrupt the videogame industry, and their third party digital distribution model is the latest example, and something Ubisoft wants to support.”

The Division 2 dropping a Steam release for the Epic Games Store on PC is the latest in a move to chase better rates for developers and publishers. While the Epic Games Store offers an 88/12 revenue split for developers, Discord lowered their own rates to a 90/10 split. Valve has maintained their 70/30 split for quite some time, perhaps that will change?

Once released, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will be available for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
