Twitch to Stop Selling Games on November 27

Twitch will be ending their game selling program this month.

The company will no longer offer game sales on November 27th. Originally introduced in April 2017, the scheme allowed users to support streamers by buying games via a streamer’s page via a “Buy Now” button.

This is now ending, as explained via an announcement:

“While our goal was to provide viewers a way to easily support streamers by purchasing games and in-game items directly from Twitch, we found that this feature as implemented did not provide most streamers with significant additional revenue. We are discontinuing this feature to invest in other ways to help viewers obtain games and in-game items directly on Twitch while supporting streamers – including through Extensions 6 on Twitch like Amazon Blacksmith 11, which allows viewers to support streamers through purchases of games and other items.”

Those who already bought a game or an in-game item will not lose access to it after this. Several other features are also unaffected:

“The Twitch Entitlement Service (TES) will be still available for game publishers to check for entitlements on Twitch; therefore, in-game content purchased on Twitch will still be redeemable by linking Twitch accounts to game accounts. All unopened Twitch Crates will be automatically opened on November 28, 2018, and the items inside those crates will continue being available.”

We will keep you updated as Twitch announces new features and changes.
