Niche Spotlight – Planet Alpha: Gorgeous “Retro Sci-fi” 2.5D Platformer

This is Niche Spotlight. In this column, we regularly introduce new games to our fans, so please leave feedback and let us know if there’s a game you want us to cover!

In today’s Niche Spotlight I’d like to talk about Planet Alpha, a recently launched, gorgeous, new 2.5D platformer from developer Planet Alpha ApS and indie publisher Team17.

In Planet Alpha, you play as an injured and helpless intergalactic explorer that has found himself marooned on a bizarre and dangerous alien world. Featured above, you can view a trailer to give you a better idea of how the game looks and plays.

Throughout the game, you’ll be pursued by both the unknown aliens responsible for your ship’s destruction, and the carnivorous flora and fauna that call the planet home. Your only chance of survival is the ability to manipulate the planet’s day and night cycle to overcome the obstacles and puzzles in your way.

Planet Alpha also represents a very special milestone for publisher Team17: Their 100th game release. To celebrate, Team17 is giving away a free copy of Worms: Armageddon when you buy Planet Alpha on Steam during its launch week. You can also find Planet Alpha on PS4, Switch, and Xbox One for $19.99.

Here’s a rundown on the game:
