Minecraft Gets Physical Switch Release Alongside “Better Together” Update in June 2018

4J Studios, Mojang, and Microsoft have confirmed a physical release for the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft.

The retail version of the sandbox game will launch alongside the game’s “Better Together” update, which brings with it the new Bedrock Engine, as well as a new in-game store that has community made stuff like worlds, textures, and skins that can be purchased with “Minecoins.” A price for the retail version is set at $29.99.

It’s also worth pointing out the game will likely be the first on the Switch to support in-game achievements and meta-level Gamerscore, which will be available when Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions launch this September.

If you already own Minecraft on Switch, you’ll be able to get the new update free of charge.

Minecraft has been available for Windows PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, 3DS, PS Vita, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, and both iOS and Android. The console version’s new Bedrock update was rolled out in September of last year, enabling players to play in VR, as well as cross-platform.
