Splatoon 2 is the First Nintendo Switch Title to Sell Over 2 Million Units in Japan

Famitsu is reporting that Splatoon 2 has sold over two million copies in Japan.

The third-person, Nintendo-developed shooter broke 2,016,182 units, making it the first Switch title to sell over two million copies in Japan.

Originally released back in July of last year, the game has garnered a community and has regular content updates, as well as tournaments.

Splatoon 2 is now available for the Nintendo Switch. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough written and video review for the game here (we highly recommend it!).

Switch owners only bought Splatoon 2 because they have nothing else to play. ;)

Now this is unexpected. I’d have thought breath of the skyrim or Odyssey would’ve broken that barrier (if ever) in Japan long before something like Splatoon 2 would’ve,that’s just weird.

Splatoon 2 outsold mario and zelda, I’m honestly baffled.

That said, i own Splatoon 2 and it is a fantastic game.

    What I thought as well.
BOTW being bar none the highest and fastest selling game on the switch I would have figured it already reached that number in japan, even if it is aimed more at westerners than previous zelda titles.

Not to worry though, pokemon is on the horizon and its numbers will crush both of them like ants.

It is. Especially since we have sales figures that revealed Odyssey, MK8deluxe, and BotW going over 6 million each. Then again, none of them have squid kids.

It’s good to say that Splatoon outsells Mario and Zelda.
I’m glad that there’s a new Nintendo IP performing really well!

What about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe having the inklings as playable characters

Forgot about that. Then again, since I already owned and played MK8 on the WiiU, I found Deluxe to be a bit disappointing since almost everything was unlocked at the start.
