Sony has announced total worldwide shipments for PlayStation 4 have topped 76.5 million units.
The news was confirmed in the company’s latest financial results, which ended on December 31st of last year. A total of nine million PlayStation 4 consoles were shipped during the three months leading up to the end of last year, a total down 700,000 from last year’s 9.7 million units in the same time frame.
It’s worth mentioning this new milestone is bringing the PlayStation 4 closer to outselling its predecessor, the Playstation 3. The previous generation console has sold roughly 80 million units worldwide – it’s only a matter of time when the PlayStation 4 overtakes it. Sony’s crown jewel of sales, the PlayStation 2, is the greatest-selling gaming console of all time at over 150 million units.
Lastly, Sony’s projected 19 million shipped units for this fiscal year is still in place.
