Beyond Good and Evil 2 Re-Revealed With New Cinematic Trailer

Ubisoft has finally re-revealed Beyond Good and Evil 2.

The game is a prequel that will take players on an “epic space adventure with us and journey to System 3.” Featured above, you can view the new cinematic trailer.

Here’s a rundown on the game, via Ubisoft:

The world – or rather worlds – of Beyond Good & Evil are back on the horizon with the unveiling of Beyond Good and Evil 2, a prequel and spiritual successor to the beloved 2003 classic. Helmed once again by developer Michel Ancel, Beyond Good and Evil 2 invites players to explore System 3, a vast solar system and a hub of interstellar colonization and commerce in the 24th century – and fans have a chance to help shape it by taking a role in the development process.

System 3, as it turns out, is a place where limited resources are viciously warred over by various private enterprises. The struggle for survival amid a rich milieu of evolved species and diverse cultures from Old Earth creates an ideal environment for space piracy, as a new generation of captains rise up to carve out a piece of the galaxy for themselves.

As you rise from lowly pirate to legendary captain, you’ll traverse System 3 at light speed to explore freely on your own or with friends. Presenting its solar system as a massive, seamless online environment, Beyond Good and Evil 2 gives players the chance to dive into the foundations of the franchise’s universe while traveling between diverse planets and moons in search of adventure.

“We know the expectations for Beyond Good and Evil 2 are enormous,” says Creative Director Michel Ancel. “We’re creating a sci-fi space opera, a game where players fight for freedom alongside unforgettable characters and explore a stunning and vast solar system, all while capturing the spirit of Beyond Good and Evil.”

Ancel wants your help to do it, too. The Beyond Good and Evil 2 team at Ubisoft Montpellier is looking for fans to help by sharing ideas and feedback, and encourage players to sign up now for the Space Monkey Program.

A whole bevy of new artwork was revealed:

Development platforms for Beyond Good and Evil 2 were not announced.

It being a prequel is a bummer, for sure, but point number 2 isn’t exactly against what the original was about.

Ubisoft even managed to mess with BGE2.

    I approve.

It’s Beyond Good and Evil. It’s a given point that it’s an amazing universe with a really cool cast.

The fact they felt the need to bring someone out on stage to point specifically that out is what’s really fucking creepy.

Agreed. That should not have needed to be said… I will remain optimistic though. But what worries me most is the seamless online comment. I need this to be playable offline… I absolutely need my single player story experience from this world.

The multiethnic part in particular is ridiculous, since this is a world with talking, anthropomorphic animals I think that would be more important?

it’s a game made by modern Ubisoft

I would imagine that they count the animal people as part of the statement. It’s just PR speak.

They still make some decent games from time to time, but yes, the odds aren’t in its favor.

  18. Ckarasu
    June 12, 2017 at 5:27 pm

I don’t think Michel Ancel has actually made a bad game so far. Rabbids was just him as character designer(for those who wanted to point out that he worked on that). Multi-cultural and multi-ethnic seemed obvious? There are lots of different races and species there. It’s just PR speak, right now.

It still has Ancel as the lead director, as far as we know. He still does good work.

I’ll cling onto that hope for now then, right now it’s difficult to really form an opinion based on a CGI trailer and muh diversity shilling in a world of talking pigs and rastafarian rhinos.

  24. Arenegeth
    June 12, 2017 at 5:33 pm

I’m worried it will follow the very vapid modern Ubisoft ‘open world’ approach, hopefully Ancel’s touch will give it more soul.

  25. Ckarasu
    June 12, 2017 at 5:33 pm

Wish they showed gameplay, so we didn’t have to speculate. Aside from the obvious PR speak about it causing unwarranted concern, the reveal was nice in that it at least setup some context. This seems to be Michel Ancel’s project, so I doubt he’ll let Ubisoft muck that up.

The original game was pretty diverse also, Not sure if Jade was actually white (but with a tan).

As long as they don’t preach the feminist agenda, on how evil men are or white people are the devil and all that intersectional bullshit, there’s nothing wrong with a black character (which may not even be the lead) though having said that, there’s seems to be a particular fad lately to add black women in games, probably for diversity points.

If this was a game that had a white male lead before, I’d understand the concern more, but we all assumed we’d get to play the sequel as Jade so…

It had to go the way of Mirror’s Edge. It’s like devs today are afraid of continuing from cliffhangers. So much for seeing Jade again.

Yeah, the original was similar but I don’t remember the game going out of it’s way to point it out, whereas it’s one of the very first things we heard about 2 which is my main issue with it. It’s getting annoying how politically charged everything is these days.

I guessed that Jade was part-asian personally.

Being a prequel, online shit, generic open world, “SO REEL” feel with a cast of cartoon animals, “multicultural multigender”… Ubisoft sure knows how to kill any hype for their products (for thinking humans, at least).

  48. mewnani
    June 12, 2017 at 10:17 pm

It’s not the fact that it’s multicultural by itself that’s the red flag, because games have done that for years without it being a problem. It’s the fact that they had to mention it like it’s important that’s the red flag, because most gamers don’t care about the race or gender of the characters on screen and never have as long as the characters themselves are good. If the fact that they are multicultural is being used as a bullet point to sell the game, that doesn’t bode well for the characters presented in the game because there’s a chance that their race and gender will be their primary if not only major characteristics, and that’s not a good thing.

A fucking precuel after the cliffhanger of the last game
not to mention all that crammed in “diversity” (that will obviously sell jack shit in the Asian Market so expect this to flop hard)
Worst of all they ditched the cartoony look of the previous game for this realistic looking crap

SJWs (or people that want to deliver a social justice thing because its the trend totday) trying to be inclusive, but they look the real racists. I don’t care the color of the skin or the romance interest of my characters on a videogame, but just because i’m a more right wing guy, i’m called fascist;etc

The problem is not “inclusion” or “anti-racist” thing, I’m from Brazil, a latino guy, but I think this forced multiethinic inclusion of black/gay/latino/etc characters and “empowered” thing is just fuel of class theory for leftist agenda. I’m tottaly against racism and etc, but, these thumblr things or “hello white boy” in Wolfenstein II is so forced and cringe. But if we say one line, if we say one thing, they call us fascist, racists, etc.

  56. Grampy_Bone

Few bought it, fewer played it. It was short, buggy, low-content, shallow, and unfinished. To this day I STILL don’t understand the love, other than “muh female protagonist” which wasn’t even uncommon. I don’t see anyone lamenting other forgotten trash like Death by Degrees.

I think there is a Thunderf00t video where he exposes the ignorance of the fanbase who praise the game for features and qualities it objectively doesn’t have. The myth of BG&E is far more interesting than the extremely pedestrian game that it is.

It’s hipster signalling. You don’t get any coolness points for liking something popular. So pick something that utterly failed in the marketplace, has a quirky aesthetic, and talk about how great it was more than actually playing it.

But it’s Ubisoft, as in Ubisoft today. The same company that made For Honor, Anno 2205, AC: Unity, AC 3, The Division, Watch Dogs. WHY DO PEOPLE STILL TRUST THEM? They’ve become the Uwe Boll of the gaming world with a litany of lies and failure in their biggest titles for YEARS now. People should be booing these hacks off stage, this company should have gone the way of THQ and yet they still keep going and they still get thunderous applause after people have already forgotten about their scams some of the worst of which are less than three years old.
