Development on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is Roughly 20-30% Complete

Full Disclosure: I have financially backed Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night on Kickstarter.

Despite having been funded over two years ago on Kickstarter, we’ve learned that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night may not be as far in development as we previously thought.

The news comes via an interview between Famitsu and game creator Koji Igarashi at this year’s BitSummit, who confirmed development on the game is roughly 20-30% complete. To compare, development on the game was roughly 10% done during last year’s BitSummit.

Igarashi noted that he is going to increase the pace of development, and that they dropped the Wii U version for the Nintendo Switch because the game is developed within Unreal Engine 4 – which the Wii U doesn’t support. He also noted the difficulty in porting the game to the Wii U from PC, in comparison to other platforms.

In total, the game raised over $5.5 million on Kickstarter alone during its crowdfunding run, plus whatever extra from Paypal.

Igarashi noted that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is still on track for a release sometime next year, across PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. Finally, Igarashi also teased showing the game off at this year’s E3, as a considerable number of backers are from North America.
