Battles in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Are Action-Based With Cover Options

This week’s Famitsu (via Hachima) has finally confirmed some new details for how combat is being handled in the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake.

In the magazine game director Tetsuya Nomura talked up the combat system, saying that battles don’t unfold via commands like in the original game, instead they’re action based. Nomura also pointed out there are places in maps where you can take cover – they’re not required though.

Nomura also noted that the Guard Scorpion battle has environment destruction, and a larger number of attacks in comparison to the original game, so the entire scene has become more grandiose. He pointed to the number of missiles flying out at you.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently in development for PlayStation 4.
