Cartoon Luigi Voice Actor Tony Rosato Dies at 62

The Toronto Sun has reported that Canadian actor and comedian Tony Rosato has died at the age of 62.

He’s best known to gamers as the voice of Luigi in the animated series The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. He was probably most famous to non-gamers for his SCTV performances like Cooking With Marcello.

Rosato was originally born in Naples, Italy, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 4. He became a regular on Canada’s SCTV,  alongside Night Heat and Relic Hunter.

Later in life he was diagnosed with Capgras Delusion, a health condition that made him believe his wife and daughter had been supplanted with imposters.

His role as Luigi in the animated series became dank meme material as “Mama Luigi” back in 2008, spawning endless numbers of YouTube Poop videos. Rosato was also involved in part with a long list of other shows, video games, with roles like Resident Evil 3 as Dario Rosso and even Nemesis.
