While Persona 5 just launched in Japan, we’ve learned (via Games Jouhou) that a fighting game spinoff based on the latest in Atlus’ flagship RPG series might actually be coming.
The news comes via Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax director Kazuhisa Wada, who said he’d like to make a Persona 5 fighting game.
He made a note in saying the team put everything they had into Persona 5, so a fighting game spinoff is something they’ll address in the future. However, he asked fans to let them know how badly they want the game.
Persona 5 is launching in both North America and Europe on February 14th.

October 16, 2016 at 1:56 pmCan’t we just have one big ol’ MegaTen fighting game. I would love to see Demi-Fiend or Raidou kick Yu Narukami’s ass.

October 16, 2016 at 2:32 pmI love Persona 4 Arena & for the longest time it was the only reason I was jealous of my console friend because my library is PC only. I used to get my “fix” every couple of weeks going to a gaming bar here in town before they went out of business. Bartender just knew I was either coming in to play Persona 4 Arena or MTG.

October 16, 2016 at 2:38 pmI think we all guessed we wouldn’t be seeing the last of Persona 5 anytime soon.

October 16, 2016 at 2:54 pmUltimax 2.0 patch for North America please, why the hell did we never get that?
Guy Dudebro
October 16, 2016 at 2:55 pmWell they originally delayed the game because of how passionate they were about this project. The game was ‘finished’ 6 months ago, but the devs were so invested that they asked for an extra half year simply to add more and more content.

October 16, 2016 at 2:59 pmSeriously, we need an SMT crossover battle. The combat system is all there, get P1 and P2 out of their technically-not-existing-anymore status for Shin Megami Tensei Suplex Global Tour, starring Demifiend, Raidou, Maya, Midori, anyone– get “Fuhrer” in there with the Spear.

October 16, 2016 at 2:59 pmMight be interesting if they got another dev to take care of the game this time around; wouldn’t mind another Tekken-based spinoff series, or maybe even a Persona vs Capcom.

October 16, 2016 at 3:03 pm“Persona vs Capcom by Eighting/Capcom”
Isn’t it obvious by now that it would be shit or just not worth the money if it was made by current Capcom?
Guy Dudebro
October 16, 2016 at 3:15 pmSFV hasn’t instilled much faith in Capcom, I consider anything good coming from them a product of what few talented and hard-working developers they have left over at Capcom JP. Or a fluke.
Comparing the level of mindblowing detail and effort put into Marvel3, to SFV’s awful clipping, wonky proportions, and paltry roster/modes, you would think Marvel3 came out more recently. It is fucking packed with content. And Ultimate had MORE content and was sold at a lower price as an apology. It still had on-disc DLC which was shitty, but the base game had so much content and was so good that barely even mattered. It still draws huge crowds at EVO all these years later with no official patches. And they made no effort to keep hold of their Marvel license at all.

October 16, 2016 at 4:16 pmWhile a Persona 5 fighting game would be good, I want a Shin Megami Tensei fighting game that has characters from the smt main series and other spinoffs.
BROKEN R.Hoffmann
October 16, 2016 at 4:16 pmAnd playable Demons.
Steven T.
October 16, 2016 at 5:12 pmProbably demons that were major bosses at some point in the series, or demons that wouldn’t take too kindly being ordered by summoners. Demons like Metatron, Medusa, Asmodeus, and Shemyaza comes to mind.

October 16, 2016 at 5:16 pmOr, if they’re allowed to, Akemi Nakajima from DDS: Megami Tensei vs. Flynn from SMT IV.

October 17, 2016 at 11:08 amIt would also be nice to see some attention given to the legacy SMT games that have never been released in English, get some characters from those… or Persona Mobile… or SMT Imagine…
