Red Dead Redemption Comes to Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility on July 8

red dead redemption 07-06-16-1

Rockstar Games have announced that Red Dead Redemption is coming to Xbox One, via backwards compatibility.

The western-themed action game will be playable on Xbox One on July 8th, this Friday. If you own a copy of the Xbox 360 version of the game, you’ll be able to play it on your Xbox One – regardless of whichever version you own.

Finally, it’s worth reiterating that the game will be available for purchase directly on your Xbox One, via its Games Store.

Oh damn. A lot of people have been asking for this. Now they just need to bring Black Ops II to the list.

Guess that’s a confirmation this game won’t be getting a current gen re-release then.

Was to be expected, really, with how the game’s source code was supposedly too much of a mess to even properly port it to PC in the first place.

To be fair this game was barely held together code was. it and GTA 5 pushed the limits of the PS3/360 era. A PC port would be a lot of work. Our best bet is to see if its an Xbox Anywhere game and even then.

Considering they were still patching this game last year (i.e. to remove Rockstar Social Club), I kind of doubt that.

The first decent reason to own an Xbox One? For a few dollars more?

The backwards compatibility just emulates a 360, it hasn’t been recoded in any way. Xbox Anywhere games are new games utilizing UWP.

Ya, I think the issue is that the source code is a complete mess, not that they lost files.

Eh, tons of people like myself still have their 360 and a copy of this lying around. Plus X1 backwards compatibility generally doesn’t work great because the tablet CPU really isn’t fast enough for good emulation.

Probably never. The Rockstar crew blew all the money they made off of GTAV on cocaine and snorted all of it at once.
