I’ve heard its similar to “Senko no Ronde”, more or less in this spin-off.

    More technically, its a 1v1 fighting shoot-em-up.

So it’s just a bullet Hell game with only one enemy?

This is a Touhou spinoff game. Not an actual Touhou Danmaku (bullet hell) game. Those are on PC already.

I am so confused, how many of these are there and what should I play?

Touhou is like the most prolific shmup of all time. Theres not an exhaustible amount of fangames. This one however has no sequels planned as far as I know and should be self-contained. If you’re not a fan of bullethells give it a pass- if you’re not a fan of Touhou or don’t know if you are then theres a billion other games you can check out in the meantime. If you like the characters it might help you decide whether or not you want a -senko no ronde game in it’s theme.

Theres about 20ish official games consisting of Breakout(originally).. Bullet Hells with varying mechanics and also net-play fighters. Can always download them with peace of mind knowing that you’re not the most horrible pirate since creator himself said he’s not in it for the commercialization and the games are very expensive due entirely to shipping costs overseas. Creator promotes derivative works of the series and they might as well be freeware(believe the early ones are) at this point. Downloadable anywhere on the internet as a pay-if-you-want basis. Also Demos if you still feel icky about it.

personally, If I was going to say which Touhou game I had the most fun with and ended up playing the longest it would be a fan-translated fan-RPG called Genius of Sappheiros, which is one of the games that came to PS4. Though i’m not sure if it will be officially localized like Genso Rondo- nor would it matter since the dedicated fan translations are actually quite good. Basically, there’s something in the series for everyone- even if it’s not an official game there is still a Touhou game in every variation-a clone of every game.. Touhou Diablo, Touhou mario partyetcetc or art or music- and that’s why it made the Guinness book.

There are 15 games currently. I’d recommend playing number 6 first, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.

Touhou getting a physical release in the west?

What bizarro universe have I woke up in today?

I usually suck at bullet hells, but I’ll most likely support this given that it is the first Touhou physical release over here and the price is great.

I’d buy it Day 1 if it wasn’t for PS4.

Also, no NISA bitching (rightfully, but still)? I’m surprised.

    EDIT: Spoke too soon.

Alright, lots of confusion in the comments section as always when it comes to Touhou. Let’s clear things up!

This is not an official Touhou game made by ZUN. It’s not canon and it’s not a traditional bullet hell shoot ’em up.

Instead it’s one of a few hand-picked doujin fan games, previously released for PC at events like Comiket, that were chosen to be ported to PS4 as part of some collaboration between ZUN, the doujin community, and Sony.

This particular game takes inspiration from Senko no Rondo, in the sense that it is pretty much a reskin of Senko no Rondo with Touhou characters. That means you’ll be having 1v1 duels against other people or the AI in a style of gameplay not dissimilar to the SUGURI games on Steam.

To be frank I wasn’t all that impressed with this game back in 2012, but that might be in part because I didn’t have any humans to play with.

Anyway, the important message to take away from this is: Gensou Rondo is not a ‘real’ Touhou game. This sort of scenario in which a large audience mistakes fan games for official ones is precisely the reason ZUN previously didn’t allow commercialization of fan games on this scale, but I guess Sony made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Yep, though shipping kills it unless you’re going for the pin set that’s exclusive to the NISA store. Or just at Amazon without it, and either free (or Prime) shipping depending, lol.

This one, lol. But yeah, surprised of a physical Touhou game, even though its not the main series, however.
