Debut Trailer for Strategy RPG Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden

Koei Tecmo has shared the debut trailer for their newly announced strategy RPG entry within the Dynasty Warriors series, Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden.

Featured above, the roughly minute and a half trailer gives us a look at the new strategy RPG, which focuses on protagonist Zhao Yun (also from the Dynasty Warriors series).

Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden is launching across PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita in Japan sometime this year.

Doesn’t look like there’s much in the ways of combat animations from that trailer.

And frankly, the new girl just makes me want another Strikeforce. It was surprisingly fun.

So, characters just teleport to whichever tile is selected?

Come on now, you can’t really expect Koei to put actual effort into /anything/ now can you?

This spin-off makes sense – a war strategy game fits well in the Dynasty Warriors universe.

Huge Dynasty Warriors fan and I gotta say I’m not seeing anything here that interests me. The whole thing looks exceptionally cheap, with all the asset recycling and the flat, empty terrain.

Might be that the game has a lot more going on for it than the trailer reveals or some really good mechanics under the hood, but if so then the trailer is going a terrible job selling it. It seems to push itself on nothing more than “Look! Shiny new characters!”

Yeah, see actually having the characters move to the new location give a sense of continuity to the action, like these characters are real even if they are obeying strange Chess Rules for warfare. Having them teleport everywhere just makes them feel more like lifeless pawns to play around with.

There is already Dynasty Tactics 1 & 2 for the PS2 which was pretty good.
I don’t expect much from this though.
