Idea Factory International has announced they’re localizing Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls.
The game will launch for PS Vita in North America and Europe via both retail and digital stores sometime this fall.
The game is an RPG that puts you in control of IF, who must step into the spotlight after the series’ main heroine, Neptune, is magically transformed into a motorcycle.
Here are the game’s first screenshots, however they’re from the Japanese release:
Here’s a rundown for the game, via Idea Factory International:
About the Sega Hard Girls
A collaboration project between ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko and SEGA, the Sega Hard Girls are made up of various Sega consoles, including the Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and Mega Drive! These anthropomorphized consoles are girls with an array of personalities and spunk, and this time they are teaming up with Neptune and IF for an all-new adventure!
Our story begins in the mysterious halls of an ancient library… The Grand Library holds the history of the world within its shelves. Legend says that if one was to tamper with the books kept there, the past itself could be completely rewritten… A daring adventurer known as IF discovered the location of this revered library and finally crossed its threshold. Little did she know, a disaster of historical proportions was about to occur before her very eyes. Books began to vanish from the library’s shelves; the history of the world was disappearing before her and the reasons for this occurrence were shrouded in mystery.
IF sets out on a journey across time to uncover the truth! Will she be able to work together with both the Sega Hard Girls and Goddesses to recover the lost history? Will they really be able to save the world?

April 7, 2016 at 5:51 pmGlad they’re bringing this over. Also, interesting thing to note: In Japan, the series is called “Super Dimension Game Neptune”, but NISA changed it to “Hyperdimension Neptunia” when they brought the original PS3 game to the west. Going by this and the title of the Blanc game, it seems IFI may finally be ditching NISA’s ‘Neptunia’ title in order to be more faithful to the Japanese version of the series by calling this game “Superdimension Neptune Vs Sega Hard Girls”. Hopefully the ‘Neptune’ title sticks for future titles as well.

April 7, 2016 at 5:56 pmI wish they would also change Plutia back to Pururut.

April 7, 2016 at 5:56 pmAs if this series wasn’t already awesome enough. Though at the pace they are releasing these it needs to be called Hyperdeflation Wallet.

April 7, 2016 at 5:57 pmAs one of NISA’s former editor’s tells it, likely the time has finally gone when the localization efforts could fall under brush of a potential (and frivolous) lawsuit over certain aspects of the writing.
TheManWithPants
April 7, 2016 at 6:05 pmInteresting, so the title “Neptune” may have been copyrighted in the west at the time? That would explain some things. Either way, I hope this means IFI will now use “Superdimension Neptune” from here on out.

April 7, 2016 at 6:12 pmSame, though I think NISA changed it because it may be hard for westerners to pronounce; kinda like how Funimation changed Kururin to ‘Krillin’ for their dub of all Dragon Ball shows and related products in the west.

DizzyGear
April 7, 2016 at 6:33 pmThere is no kr sound in Japanese so Krillin is actually a pretty fair take on Kurulin.
And while Plutia Is not a 1 on 1 translation it can a reference to an other unreleased Sega console codenamed Pluto. So they at least put some thought into coming up with a name that rolls better off the tongue than Pururut.

April 7, 2016 at 8:59 pmThe reason why all the titles use “Neptunia” instead of “Neptune” goes back to when NISA localized the very first game for the PS3 five years ago. They wanted to avoid copyright issues with Sega and their proposed Sega Neptune system. Thus, they used “Neptunia” instead.
On the other hand, getting the rights to localize Sega Hard Girls most likely required IFi to get direct permission from Sega anyways, so they probably requested to use the name “Neptune” while they were at it.

April 8, 2016 at 2:01 amthey didn’t change it per se, 超 can be translated as super, hyper or ultra
also, the franchise is only “neptune”, since they change it a lot, so far, it has been 超, 超次, 神, 神次, 新, 激

April 8, 2016 at 3:20 amNothing against IFs new look, but I hope her old Nine Brand coat is available in-game.
TheManWithPants
April 8, 2016 at 3:31 amChou, is often used for the word “Super”, though (Dragon Ball Super comes to mind, as it uses “Chou” in its logo). And yes, I’m aware that other entries use different labels for the [X] Dimension part. (“Kami Jigen Game Neptune V” or “Ultra Dimension Game Neptune V”, etc.).
It’s very interesting that they’ve chosen “Super” over “Hyper”, though, and they’ve gone completely over to Japan’s “Neptune” Title, ditching “Neptunia” in favor of it.
TheManWithPants
April 8, 2016 at 3:33 amYes, so this likely means that either the copyright has expired, a deal was made, or IFI was able to purchase the rights to the title “Neptune” for future titles.
chocodino
April 8, 2016 at 3:46 amI think this will be only a one time thing, after all, brand name is important, and “neptunia” is already established, and in lots of languages it rolls out of the tongue a lot better than neptune….but in truth, I don’t really care, it will not change the content in the game, which is what actually matters.
TheManWithPants
April 8, 2016 at 4:03 amBut here’s the thing, it’s not a one time thing. The Blanc game was originally titled “Blanc + Neptunia” for the west, but IFI quietly changed the title to “Blanc + Neptune”, combine that with this new “Superdimension Neptune” title we’re getting with this game, and it seems they really are ditching “Neptunia”.

April 8, 2016 at 6:34 amSony Taiwan are responsible for that. IFI have nothing to do with this.
Though a promotion on their FB page wouldn’t be a bad idea.
aaaa
April 8, 2016 at 7:16 amI find it hard to believe that Sega was the reason why it was Neptunia in the west. It must be some other company had trademark the name since Sega was already involved in the First Neptune game.

April 8, 2016 at 7:24 amI find it stupid that they have to change names just because its “too hard for Americans to pronounce”, like what about the rest of the world?

April 8, 2016 at 12:53 pmWell considering the games have English dubs using American VAs, that probably would be part of why they did it. I doubt most folks in the UK, Australia, and Canada could pronounce ‘Pururut’ properly either. If they didn’t change the name, folks would probably complain that the dub VAs aren’t pronouncing it properly as well.
