First KOTOR Getting Unreal Engine 4 Fan Remake

Though we’re unlikely to get another Triple-A developed Star Wars RPG ever again, it seems that the the first Knights of the Old Republic is due to get a fan remake.

This new version, officially titled Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron, will be powered by Unreal Engine 4 and will contain new areas and models that were not present in the original story. According to the official site, the game will also contain new quests, companions, planets, and even a redesigned inventory system. In fact, the differences are so drastic that there doesn’t appear to even be much of a connection to KOTOR 1, considering how vastly different the released images of the alpha are when compared to the original game they are based on.

That being said, the project looks much more advanced than your usual fan remake. Developer Peom Studios, the brains behind Apeiron, have stated that they are allowed to continue with the game thanks to them making it available for free, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the project isn’t immune to a cease & desist letter either. We’ll keep you updated as the project progresses.
