Software and hardware can get delayed from manufacturer issues, quality assurance, and more – however it’s definitely interesting to see a manufacturer delay their hardware due to recent discoveries within their field.

This happened with HTC and Valve, regarding their HTC Vive head-mounted virtual reality system. We learned (via Engagdet) that the HTC Vive will be delayed past its Q1 2016 release.

At the Vive Unbound developers forum in Beijing, HTC co-founder, chairperson, and CEO Cher Wang teased that two weeks ago both her team and Valve made “a very, very big technological breakthrough” with their virtual reality headset.

Apparently, this breakthrough is so large they’re skipping the original consumer model and moving right towards producing and shipping the new model, complete with whatever this new breakthrough is.

“We shouldn’t make our users swap their systems later just so we could meet the December shipping date,” said Wang.

It’s worth mentioning that whatever this new model is sporting, we’ll see it revealed at the yearly CES next month.
