Deal With The Devil: 1920s Style Art Deco Horror Game Announced

The Spanish Influenza. Other than being that one example of “We’re overdue for a germ apocalypse” that the media throws at us whenever a SARS or Bird-flu-esque illness rears its head, it’s also the jumping point for a story in a new first person horror game by freshly minted studio Round Table Games.

Titled Deal With The Devil, the game casts you as a young woman named Amelia Woods who, as she travels about her post-world-war-one and Art Deco inspired 1920s world, seems to stumble upon what the developers refer to as “eldritch horrors”. If the setting and the language doesn’t make you think about H.P. Lovecraft, it probably should, since it would seem that’s what the developers are aiming for. Even the hero, Amelia, is said to straddle the line between good and evil, making her out to be some sort of morally ambiguous anti-hero akin to Lovecraft’s own Herbert West.

The game is being built upon the new Unreal engine 4 and is, at the moment, being planned for both a PC and console release.

Round Table Games, which was founded earlier this year by former Blizzard employee Rich Barham and UK game professor Tanya Krzywinska, intend to, quote, “bridge the gap between narrative-driven experience and first person horror” in Deal With The Devil. More information can be found on the company’s official website. Thanks to Bluesnews for the tip.
