Crystal Dynamics: New, Single Player Legacy of Kain is a “50/50 Chance”

The staff at Square Enix subsidiary Crystal Dynamics are still holding out some hope to work on a new, single player Legacy of Kain game, if a new interview with one of the studio’s lead developers is anything to go by.

The new tease comes from an upcoming interview between Australian outlet Finder and Crystal Dynamics’ lead designer Michael Brinker, who said that making a new single player game in the storied franchise is literally a 50/50 chance.

“It’s a 50/50 chance. We have in-house developers who really want to make that game,” said Brinker in a preview of the interview. “It’s interesting because people look back at our history and our franchises and see that we have some really great iconic IPs.”

“So gamers wonder; ‘where are they and what are they doing?’ Well we’re always tossing around and talking about ideas [of bringing them back]. It really is 50/50.”

The last true Legacy of Kain release was Legacy of Kain: Defiance (pictured above), which launched for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC back in 2003 (it was later re-released on Steam back in 2012).

In 2013, Nosgoth, a multiplayer-only arena shooter was announced, and it has been in open beta via Steam Early Access since January of this year.

The sad part? Nosgoth was purportedly the multiplayer component to an entirely new, single player Legacy of Kain game, dubbed Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun. That game was quietly cancelled, despite how promising it was looking in recently shown gameplay and screenshots.

Would you guys be happy to see an entirely new, single player game in the Legacy of Kain series? It seems like the developer is looking to see if fan demand is still there. Sound off in the comments below!
