RPG Maker MV is Announced for PC, Mac – Comes with Side-View Battles, Multi-Device Support

rpg maker mv 08-04-15-1

We’ve learned (via Famitsu) that a new game in the RPG Maker series is being developed for PC and Mac.

Titled simply RPG Maker MV, the latest in the ongoing DIY-RPG series has some new features coming with it.

  • Side-view battles are now a default option
  • Support for multiple devices
  • Mouse and touch controls are both supported
  • A huge increase on the limit of items allowed in your database
  • Maps are now automatically three layers
  • Games can now run in high resolution

It’s a bit early to get your hopes up for an English release, however, it seems Enterbrain is open to third parties licensing and localizing their games, as RPG Maker 2003 was recently launched on Steam, in English.

A release date wasn’t confirmed – but we’ll keep you guys posted.

“Side-view battles are now a default option”
    “Three layered maps”

    This pleases my dev soul.

… “Support for multiple devices” is code for “cell phone”, isn’t it?

Never mind RPG-Maker, you had me excited for a brief moment.

Side-view was easly doable via scripting already.

But three layered maps are nice. Though I will probably do things like I do now… I mean parallax mapping.

I’ve always found it weird with the RPG Maker series that the only memorable games I’ve played made on it aren’t RPGs. Are we just not getting them translated outside of Japan?

This tingles every part of my soul – hopefully it’ll be easier to incorporate SRPG battle systems (Fire Emblem or Super Robot Wars) without too much scripting?

this is good stuff, RPG maker is used in many games already so they might as well release a new improved version so those games will be better

Yeah, I’m aware (though it’s made by SapphireSoft, not Shouzou Kaga). Can’t really use it though, since I only know a few moonrunes :P
