Viking-Themed CRPG “Kyn” Gets New Trailer, Releases This Month

Getting somewhat lost in all the Kickstarter-funded CRPG news and such, Netherlands-based developer Tangrin has no doubt had trouble getting its new RPG, Kyn into player’s thoughts. With a game world based on Viking myth and an innovative combat system that uses a slow-down mechanic rather than a full-on pause feature to issue commands, it seems like the kind of game more folks would have picked up on.

A trailer, uploaded to their Youtube channel yesterday, hopes to change that. Showcasing the game’s combat and puzzle mechanics, the video gives would-be players a good idea of what to expect when the game releases this month.

Speaking of imminent releases, you can pre-order the game on GOG for $19.99. A colorful description of the game can be read there as well:

Kyn, an unforgiving Viking cRPG, is available for Windows pre-order now, DRM-free on GOG.com!
    1. Be a viking. 2. Be buried alive. 3. ??? 4. Profit. That’s the short version of an ancient Viking ritual designed to grant might and magical powers to the bravest Nordic warriors. Meet Kyn, six rowdy vikings on a quest to fight off every single monster-like thing that infests their icy world.
The thing about Kyn is that it’s tough, real tough. It’s a tactical cRPG that’s all about combat like you know it from Baldur’s Gate or Icewind Dale, no frills attached. Enemies are quick and brutal, and though you have your magic – health is always in short supply, one wrong turn and you’re down for the count. Active-pause? Please. While you can slow down the game briefly to catch your bearings, in this world, even time is a limited resource.

The game is due to launch on the 28th of this month (July), and you can see more of it by taking a peek at their official homepage.
