Watch Geralt Murder People in Gameplay Montage

“But…that sword is for monsters!” Yes, it is, but any good Witcher knows that life isn’t just about hunting Griffons and accosting Trolls. Sometimes you have to cut a few human throats, and a video montage recently put together by Gamespot shows just that.

As a commenter pointed out, the video shows enemy friendly fire, which shows how far the combat scripting has gone since Geralt’s last outing. Overall, the “human” combat looks much like it did in the second game, only with much quicker blade strikes with less frames of animation (Meaning less time to interrupt your attacks) and what appears to be a very quick and easy-to-do backstep maneuver. It looks as if the goal may have been to make combat more in line with modern action games and have it be quicker/easier to control than what the series is used to. Criticism about the series’ combat has always been a constant on its forums, so this may be their way of addressing that.

The slow-mo cutting of throats (1:35 in the video) while on horseback is a thing of beauty. In three weeks, you’ll get your chance to do it yourself.
