Now You Can Play Tabletop D&D With A Keyboard Rather Than Dice

As we get older, it gets harder to gather the old group together for an old-fashioned tabletop Dungeons & Dragons session. Wizards of the Coast knew this, which is why they tried (with mixed results) to do it with D&D Next back when 4th edition premiered. Though it never (In my opinion) became the landscape-changing force they wanted it to, others picked the ball up after WotC dropped it. One of those brave groups that did was Smiteworks USA, which created a similar program called Fantasy Grounds.

Fantasy Grounds allowed you to play tabletop games via the internet as well, but at the time of its release, the application didn’t officially support Dungeons & Dragons. As you can tell by this article’s title, that has now changed.

With DLC that adds all the classes and also all of the monsters available in 5th edition D&D, it’s now possible to take your adventures into the digital age so you no longer have to worry about who has to buy the chips and soda. There is even a module up that supports this new D&D content, so if you have the money, you can jump right in and begin adventuring around Faerun immediately.

Apparently, more modules are on the way, one of which is planned to be The Hoard of the Dragon Queen.

All told, the entirety of the game’s DLC adds up to over $1200, so if you want to get everything you had better start saving. Thankfully, the game does allow purchasers to make their own modules, so you won’t need to mortgage your house if you are content with relying on your imagination.
