Scarlett Johansson 04-22-15-1

We’ve learned from Collidor (via Anime News Network) that the upcoming Ghost in the Shell live-action adaptation is being filmed in early 2016.

The news comes from a presser from Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Scarlett Johansson confirmed the film would begin shooting in early 2016. “It’s happening. It will be shooting the beginning of next year, so I think we start production January or February and it’s me and Rupert [Sanders]; and that’s all I know,” said Johansson.

Johansson is starring as Major Motoko Kusanagi, the cyborg who is employed by Public Security Section 9. The movie is being directed by Rupert Sanders, who so far has only directed Snow White and the Huntsman movie. Dreamworks is handling the production, while Disney is marketing the movie.

Finally, a tentative release date for the movie is currently set for April 14th, 2017.
