We’ve learned a bit more of Star Ocean 5: Integrity & Faithfulness, from this week’s Famitsu magazine.

While details are not exactly plentiful, we know that players will be able to see a seamless transition between event scenes, dialogue, and battles. Several different situations can arise in event scenes, and examples of pre-battle scenarios, like being captured in an ambush, were mentioned.

There will be many different branching paths that will arise from the different circumstances of event scenes and battles, which naturally lead to a variety of end results for players. Cooperation in the battles is key, as there will be even more enemies on-screen than in previous games. You can also switch between characters in mid-battle.

Depending on how far you are from your enemies, your attacks will change, contextually. Characters can perform combos via repeated button input, and your skills will also change as you’re positioned further or nearer to your enemies.

Here you can see Fidel and Miki fighting off enemies as they make an attack on their hometown of Starl. A currently unknown blonde-haired swordsman is also shown fighting with Fidel, and you can get a real sense of how frantic the battles might become when multiple enemies come into the picture.

Speaking in an interview with Famitsu, producer Shuichi Kobayashi said that party members “will function via an AI, and will attack automatically.” However, the mechanics are the same as previous games, in that “the character being controlled by the player will fight an enemy one-on-one,” while boss fights will feature “the entire party fighting the boss.”

In case you missed it, we detailed the game’s story and world complete with lots of screenshots, as well as translated interviews with the voice actors behind Miki and Fidel.

Star Ocean 5: Integrity & Faithfulness is currently in development for Playstation 3 and Playstation 4, with current development at 30% complete.
