In an interview (with 4Gamer) about Sonic Runners, the upcoming F2P Sonic mobile game, the head of the Sonic development team, Takashi Iizuka, stated that gamers needn’t worry about Sega’s new focus on PC and mobile games.

When asked whether Sonic would relocate to mobile devices, Iizuka said, “Currently we don’t … I don’t plan to halt Sonic for home consoles. Don’t worry about that! And enjoy!”

This statement comes amid worries that Sega is abandoning consoles. Although the developer-publisher has decided to refocus their efforts on the PC and mobile markets, they also intend to capitalize on Sonic’s popularity in the West, where the console market is still profitable, so this assurance makes sense.
