Dontnod Entertainment Answer Questions About Life is Strange

Two Dontnod Entertainment employees took to Reddit to answer questions about Life is Strange, their upcoming, episodic point-and-click adventure game. We’ve compiled the pertinent bits below.

The only languages currently supported for the game are English (audio and subtitles) and French (subtitles). Dontnod do want to add more languages later if they have the chance to do so.

Life is Strange was inspired by Remember Me‘s “Memory Remix” sequences. Dontnod wanted to expand this idea into a whole game.

Episode 1 takes about 2 or 3 hours to finish, but can take up to 4 hours if players “explore every single bit of environmental storytelling or want to know every outcome before they make their final choice, using the rewind mechanic.” There are also collectibles scattered throughout the game. All of the episodes will be around the same length.

Jonathan Morali from the band Syd Matters is composing the game’s score. Life is Strange contains a mix of licensed tracks and original music.

Life is Strange will have a platinum trophy, which is exclusive to Playstation 4, and will have achievements for Steam, as well as Steam cards.

The Xbox One version of the game “should be available on 30th Jan at 00:01 UTC”, the same time around the world. The PS4 version will be available at 00:01 in each respective territory. “We’ve worked hard to ensure the release dates are all within the smallest window possible!’

When Maxine rewinds time, she remains in the same position she was before the rewind, so she is practically able to teleport. In this way, players can “skip” obstacles.

Although there will be setpieces, as there are in Telltale Games, Life is Strange is a bit more free-form, “allowing the player to explore the entire environments.” Dontnod claim there are many open-ended areas in which players can take their time, “chat with various NPCs and find optional interactions.”

Life is Strange deals with themes of “friendship, accepting one’s fate, coming-of-age, responsibility and so on”.

Dontnod Entertainment were careful to emphasize that “this most definitely isn’t a high school drama—it just so happens that there is a high school in the game!”

Dontnod and Square Enix are aiming to release a new episode of Life is Strange every six weeks. The first episode releases on January 30 for the PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
