There’s been a lot of Amiibo news lately, but instead of parceling it out piecemeal, we thought we’d collect it in one, big post. This is that post. Let’s get to it.
Nintendo’s Amiibo toys have been selling well, managing about 2.6 million units since their arrival in 2014, which, naturally, means Nintendo will continue to produce more of them.
To that end, the next wave of Amiibo figurines were recently revealed, and the fact that a Super Mario series of them is in the works.
New Amiibo and Super Mario series
The next wave of Amiibos are due this Spring, and include (illustrated above, from left to right) Robin, Lucina, Pac-Man, Wario, Ness, and Charizard.
The Super Mario Amiibo (illustrated below) will include Super Smash Bros. Amiibo toys in new poses; these characters will be interchangeable, that is, a Super Smash Bros. Luigi will interact with games in the same way as the new Super Mario Luigi.
The Super Mario series will be compatible with the upcoming Mario Party 10, as will Rosalina, Luma, Donkey Kong, and Wario. Unfortunately, you’ll need to erase a figure’s Smash data in order to use it with Mario Party 10.
The Super Mario Amiibo are due on March 20, and consist of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, and Toad.
The Toad Amiibo will update functionality for Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, hiding a pixelated Toad on each stage for players to find. Note that the Toad Amiibo is not compatible with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U or 3DS.
Fire Emblem Amiibo, Code Name: Steam, and Marth
Nintendo has said that Fire Emblem Amiibo will be compatible with the soon-to-be-released Code Name: Steam. This could have posed a problem, since the Marth figurines have already sold out, but Nintendo has announced that more of him is on the way. The upcoming Robin, Ike, and Lucina are compatible with the game, provided that you play it on the New Nintendo 3DS XL.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Releasing on January 22nd in Japan, February 13th in North America, and in the second half of 2015 for Europe, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse will support the Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede Amiibo, which will provide power-ups to the puffball.
