Sohei Niikawa, the president of Nippon Ichi Software, is candid about the current happenings of his company.

In the latest issue of Dengeki Playstation, he confirmed via an interview that a Playstation Vita port of Disgaea 5 was completely not possible. His response came after many fans were asking if a Vita port was happening, considering the previous two games made their way to Sony’s handheld:

“I realize that many fans are asking for this, however, we are developing the game under the specs of the Playstation 4. To be clear, it’s impossible to port the game to the Playstation Vita. We can’t port the game without removing a lot of features and cutting out lots of assets, which, while difficult, is something we don’t want to do.”

He also touched upon the inevitable question that fans might ask, that a “return” version of the game would come to Vita eventually, while also slipping out that he hasn’t heard anything regarding a Vita successor:

“I also think people might be waiting for a “return” version with all of the original content (and DLC) included, but I apologize – that won’t happen this time. (laughs) If we were to really port the game to a portable console, fans would probably have to wait for the next Sony portable after the Vita, but I haven’t heard anything about this [system], so that would be far into the future.”

Lastly, he did confirm the game will have remote play, and let out a final plea to his fans:

“Disgaea 5 will have Remote Play. Don’t wait for the Playstation Vita port, and finally – please play the Playstation 4 version.”

Niikawa revealed that Disgaea 5 was originally developed with both the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 in mind, but that a PS4-only release was decided to help Sony’s latest home console hopefully succeed in Japan. He pointed out that Nippon Ichi Software has been developing games only for Sony platforms since Jigsaw World, which released back on the original PlayStation in 1995. The company wants to help in the growth of the Playstation 4, because of their history developing for Sony consoles.

Curry is reportedly a large theme implemented in Disgaea 5, according to Niikawa. The mascot character, Usaria, is extremely fond of curry, although it will also be a big part of the story, as well as the systems within the game. A collaboration with Japanese curry-themed restaurant chain GO!GO!CURRY! is also coming.

Finally, Niikawa also confirmed that while the company has shifted all of their development to PlayStation 4, two more unconfirmed titles are being developed for the platform, alongside Disgaea 5.
