Today is the 15th anniversary of the original Shenmue in Japan.

Despite the series’ creator, Yu Suzuki, wanting to make a third and final entry in the series, fan remakes that feature high-definition graphics are the closest thing we’ve gotten to a modern Shenmue.

Prior to Suzuki’s post-mortem for the series at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference, there were rumblings of him looking into finally creating the final game in the series. These murmurs would come out again, with Suzuki claiming the game would is “as close to being announced as it has ever been over the past decade.”

Make of those links what you will, but here’s a fan still hoping for an end to Ryo’s story.
