inXile’s New Game Revealed?

If you remember, we reported earlier about Wasteland 2 developer inXile teasing a new game announcement. Most people (logically) thought it would be a new Bard’s Tale game.

Thanks to the epically awesome folks at the RPG Codex who dig some digging, that may not be the case.

First, a trademark for “Meantime” appeared, which seemed to point to inXile making that famous unreleased spinoff to the original Wasteland an actual game. This made sense, since with the success of Wasteland 2, a time-traveling spin-off like “Meantime” could build upon their already finished work.

Then, after seemingly solving the mystery of their next game, it was revealed that inXile also filed a trademark for “Van Buren”.

Van Buren, as Fallout fans may remember, was the internal codename for Fallout 3, back when Interplay owned the license.

Naturally, this has led to some pretty fantastic forum threads.

Whether their next game is a time-traveling Wasteland 2 spin-off or a rebirth of the Van Buren project, it’s safe to say that fans of post-apocalyptic CRPGs have a lot to look forward to.
