Android Emulator Plays Real PC RPGs, For A Price

Hardcore CRPG’ers like myself can’t go very long without getting their dice rolls on, and if you have a mobile device your selections are pretty limited when it comes to RPGs. Most are throw-away titles with micro-transactions while the rest are usually lighthearted, cookie-cutter JRPGs. While the option to emulate 8- and 16-bit games has always been there for Android, there’s one new emulator that might be worth checking out.

Exagear, which lets you play PC RPGs on android devices, is aiming to fill that void. Though it only emulates a few games as of this writing (Fallout 1 and 2, and Might & Magic 6, 7 and 8) it seems to do so impressively enough to consider this a viable option for oldschool CRPG diehards that have an android-based tablet and have always dreamed of a portable PC.

Unfortunately, this emulator does not have a free version and anyone wanting to indulge in some old-school gaming on the run will have to fork over money after the three-day grace period for what the developer calls “Control Packages”. What’s worse is, each package is unique to one game, so for each new game you want to play, you must pay again.

That being said, it seems to have very solid support and emulates the games fluidly, if reviews are to be believed. With a 4.2 rating, it might be worth a shot.
