Square Enix has somewhat of a knack for still surviving off the laurels of the older games in the Final Fantasy series, or at least as far as their fans are concerned.

Unrelated to Square Enix corporate, The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra played a symphonic arrangement from the Final Fantasy VI soundtrack, dubbed the “Symphonic Poem of Final Fantasy VI.”

Thanks to an effort from with Merregnon Studios, the live performance that went down this past summer at the Stockholm Concert Hall, is now available to listen via the Royal Stockholm Orchestra’s website.

The timing is perfect, considering that the 20th anniversary for Final Fantasy VI is coming up this month, October 20th in North America to be exact. Final Symphony producer Thomas Böcker had this to say regarding the occasion, as well as original composer Nobuo Uematsu’s work:

“The music of Nobuo Uematsu remains as powerful and as moving today as it did when we first heard it twenty years ago. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to bring his music to the concert hall and now, for the first time ever, we’re delighted to be able to share the Symphonic Poem online with the world in this, Final Fantasy VI’s 20th anniversary year. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the world’s finest orchestras, with a long tradition of performing video gaming’s best-loved melodies, and they have produced a concert video that does true justice to the music.”

The Symphonic Poem is a unique arrangement of various tracks from the game, and it was arranged for the Final Symphony series of concerts, which celebrate the various games in the series by having regular orchestral tours to perform music from said games.
