The Engine and Map Editor of Mount & Blade II is Insanely Powerful

The studio at Taleworlds Entertainment have revealed a new developer diary for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, their hotly anticipated prequel of sorts.

Featured above, developer diary 8 is all about the engine baby – and boy is the engine behind Mount & Blade II quite impressive. Not only have they vastly improved the visuals from the previous games, they’re implementing tools for their fans, enthusiasts, and modders alike to potentially build entirely new games.

You can load in height map image to completely generate large swaths of terrain, and then you can also throw on textures in multiple layers. You can also completely deform and shape the terrain, entirely within the game’s engine/editor. There are even atmospheric controls that allow you to add in water, fog, sunshine, clouds, etc.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is currently in development for Windows PC. For now you can view their other dev diarys here, on their official blog.
