Here’s a Glimpse at the First Game from NYU’s Game Center

Remember that new game development incubator program that New York University had announced back in June of this year? Well the students from within the university have been working diligently, and we’ve gotten a look at their first game.

Titled simply Gemini, featured above you can view a sample of a thesis project from game designers and NYU students Nick Zhang and Atlas Chen. What started as a game jam entry where the theme was constellations became a full-fledged project about traveling amongst the stars. I find it cool that Zhang named it after his own zodiac sign, Gemini, a signification of the two stars you control.

The caveat with Gemini is that you can only directly control one of the stars – you have to manipulate the second one by crossing over it and leading it along. You have to find your own path and essentially feed each star by constantly making their paths cross, otherwise you’ll run out of steam and fall down out of the skies.

Both Zhang and Chen have been working on this game under the leadership from the NYU Game Center director Frank Lantz, game developer Clara Fernández-Vara,  QWOP creator Bennett Foddy, and even thatgamecompany co-founder Jenova Chen.
