If you’re still holding out hope for The Last Guardian to ever make an appearance this year, let alone at one of the year’s final trade shows, you should probably temper your hype.

When asked at Gamescom if we’ll see the game resurface in Tokyo Game Show next month, Sony worldwide studio boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer:

“I don’t think so. Sorry.”

So when exactly are we ever going to see the game again? “When we are ready,” Yoshida said. “I cannot confirm any timing because we are waiting for it to be in a state where we are happy that this is the game. We have a certain time frame in our mind, and the team is making great progress, but still not to the point that we can say that, here you go.”

Going by what Yoshida is saying, the game experienced a multitude of technical issues on the Playstation 3. “It worked to some extent, that’s why we had a date in mind.” That date, was specifically in regards to the original 2011 holiday release.

“That was a mistake,” Yoshida revealed, “but at one time it was looking possible. It has been totally re-engineered. They’re still working on it. I’ve been seeing the progress.”

Is the game still a Playstation 3 game? Is it still being actively worked on by now ex-Sony Japan/Team Ico boss Fumito Ueda? No one knows, and Yoshida isn’t saying either.

We’ll keep you guys posting, and we’ll let you know whenever The Last Guardian decides to wake from its slumber.
