Dreadnought is Basically Any Space Sim/Science Fiction Fan’s Dream Come True

Let me start this off by saying Battlestar Galactica is one of my favorite shows of all time, and if you haven’t seen it while calling yourself a fan of science fiction – you’re doing yourself and the world a giant disservice.

The show revolves around a tiny, pathetically small group of human survivors crowding together in one of the last remaining flagship spacecraft of the human’s space fleet. Germany based Yager’s new game, Dreadnought, isn’t much far off from that.

Featured above, you can check out the game’s debut teaser trailer of sorts, a comical nod to the game’s entire premise – the giant ships that typically make up the backbone of an armada.

While most space simulators have you get into the pilot’s seat of a small, one person fighter, Dreadnought completely turns the genre on its head, focusing instead entirely on the giant, behemoth, capital ships.

Various space simulators would allow you to get one of these mothers eventually, but usually at the cost of inhuman amounts of resources, capital, and at the giant risk that it could be destroyed one day.

The game is still somewhat in early development, but it’s already looking quite gorgeous, if the screenshots are of any note. Currently, the game features five very different capital ships for you to control, ranging in size, artillery, and of course – maneuverability.

You’ll be able to make full use of your abilities as captain of the ship and commander of its crew – meaning you can give the order to re-route energy to the shields, weapons, or even engines, while also impairing the systems you’re diverting power from.

There are five different capital ships thusfar are the Destroyer, the Dreadnought, the Corvette, the Tactical, and the Artillery.

Their names are somewhat straightforward, but a quick rundown of each would break down into the Destroyer being the most well rounded, the Dreadnought being a tank, the Corvette being somewhat of a scout, the Tactical being more of a medic, and the Artillery – you guessed it, a long range gunner.

While there isn’t much information for Dreadnought right now, you can consider me waiting anxiously for this title, it’s definitely one to watch if you’re into the genre. In the meantime, you can oogle their official website, Facebook, and Twitter with requests of how much you want the Battlestar Galactica in the game.
