Mojang is poising their Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita ports of Minecraft to come out in either Q2 or Q3 of this year. The teasing first began on a Playstation Blog Europe post.

Naturally, the reply by Mojang’s Owen Hill got everyone all flustered, as he simply said “We’re aiming for Q2 or Q3,” making everyone wonder if there was a specific date in mind at the company.

However, he elaborated a bit further in a response to Polygon:

“Yes — we are planning to release on PS4 and Vita at around Q2-Q3 this year. We’re not able to share more specific dates yet though, sorry. We’d rather be vague than disappoint people! They probably won’t be released simultaneously. We’re going to release on each format as soon as it’s ready.”

Mojang is also looking into whether they can let owners of the previous version on Playstation 3 to get a discount of the game on Vita, and that it might be possible for users to transfer data between PS3 and PS4. Hill said that the team is “still working out how it’ll work” with the Vita port.

“We’re still testing PS3-Vita save compatibility, along with a lot of other things,” Hill also told Polygon. “It’s too early to confirm what will or won’t make it in.”

Minecraft is getting a retail release on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Playstation Vita, although only the Playstation 3 version has a release date. Minecraft: PS3 Edition is coming to retail on May 14th in Europe and on May 16th in North America.
