Learn How the Characters of Drakengard 3 Were Created

Square Enix has revealed a behind the scenes interview with art and character designer Kimihiko Fujisaka, the man behind the art and character designs of Drakengard 3.

In the interview he talks about how he went for a more modern design for the characters in the third game in the series, forgoing the medieval style that was seen in the first two games. The non-playable characters and monsters, however, are still very much taken from older traditions and styles.

One of the more interesting things he mentioned was how he came up with the designs of the characters, and how he would go off on simple descriptions and plot points. After seeing the initial designs, the director and writer, Yoko Taro, would intentionally switch up their personality to be the opposite of what they ended up looking like.


Square Enix also confirmed the third round of pre-order bonuses for the game, this time you’ll get access to six themes that feature the game’s characters. You can view those below:

Drakengard 3 is coming on May 20th in North America and May 21st in Europe, exclusively on Playstation 3.
