Witness How Mega 64 Directed the Father of Playstation, Ken Kutaragi

Previously, we reported on the fantastic video that Mega 64 did for Ken Kutaragi and the annual Game Developer’s Conference, where this year he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Instead of doing a historically accurate video, they made a parody of sorts that jumped all over the place, and is quite hilarious – check that out here.

Now, the folks at Mega 64 have finally released the making of video, Kountdown to Kutaragi, which chronicles the painstaking process of getting all of the source material just right. The key seemed to be just the right of hamming it up, the right amount of 80’s inspired synth pop, the right amount of killing and explosions – and of course, getting that old VHS quality banding all over the video.

The making of is actually longer than I expected, and due to production schedules and Kutaragi’s own busy schedule, the team only had a half an hour to actually shoot with the former Sony visionary. Despite a multitude of issues with getting the proper look finished via retro-fitting the content onto a VHS, they managed to finish it time.
