A Sequel to Demon’s Souls “Will be Worth the Wait, Where There is Smoke, There is Fire”

Atlus PR Manager John Hardin was replying to comments over on the Playstation Blog in regards to a boatload of new Persona games being confirmed for the West, when a fan asked the burning question lots of Souls fans have – will there ever be a Demon’s Souls 2?

His initial response will be disappointing to fans of the original, he said: “PS Blog Exclusive: can 100% confirm there will NOT be a Demon Souls 2. :(” Things get interesting when he later replies to another fan questioning his previous reply, he seems to put the blame on Sony: “That’s Sony’s call. From what I’ve heard around the internets, Demon’s Souls is one big Gordian knot.”

Previously, we had a tease from an industry insider on NeoGAF who goes by the handle of DemoNite. He previously gave the tease: “If by souls you mean another PS4 exclusive Souls spinoff then maybe ? ; )” to a fan asking if a Demon’s Souls sequel was possible, or in the making. Today he’s at it again, saying the following:

“Whatever Miyazaki is doing, I’m sure all Souls fans will enjoy it. Me included ;D”

In case you didn’t know, (Hidetaka) Miyazaki was the lead director on Demon’s Souls, the Playstation 3 exclusive original.

Now things have gotten very interesting thanks to our friends over at Dualshockers, who got word from an insider at Sony Computer Entertainment. This insider had some very interesting words regarding a possible sequel to Demon’s Souls, although his message is quite nebulous:

“It will be worth the wait. Where there is smoke, there is fire.”

Despite the critical and commercial legacy of Demon’s Souls, a sequel has been only heavily rumored for quite some time now. The original being co-developed with Sony Japan, its spiritual successor was taken to Namco Bandai, who helped develop and publish it alongside From Software.
